Are you in the process of creating your first record or single? Or are you in a band hoping to bring extra attention that way? Whatever the cause, the odds are good that you’re here today to learn about promoting your music.

At some point, a musician must learn how to promote their work. Failure to do so can stagnate a career, at best. Thankfully, there are hundreds of ways to promote your work, and technology makes it even easier. Here are a few ways to promote your music.

Think Branding

First things first – has your band created any branding tactics yet? In other words, is there a logo, color palette, etc.? What sort of theme or organization do the songs or album titles follow?

Ideally, you want to create a cohesive theme for all visual elements of your band – the branding. This will help make the band more recognizable. Don’t forget to apply these rules to any visual art, such as album covers.

Social Media

Social media is essential in any professional’s kit, especially for musicians. This is an excellent way to establish and grow a fanbase. However, creating a strong social media presence takes time and effort.

Start by deciding which is the right platform for you. Likely, you will find that Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook is most conducive to growing your audience. Once decided, create an account and begin posting – and interacting with other accounts. The more organic your account feels the more traffic it will generate.

Website Maintenance

Nowadays, most businesses – musicians and bands included – must have a website. However, you can’t just create a website and walk away. You need to keep this website up-to-date!

For musicians, this includes information such as available albums (including purchase links) and any upcoming gigs. This will make it easier for fans to find and support you. You don’t want this information to be challenging, as many newer fans are far too likely to give up quickly.

Press Kits

Don’t forget about press kits! Electronic press kits (EPK) are pre-packaged resumes for musicians and artists. It’s a great way to showcase what you offer and looks more professional when interacting inside the industry. Your EPK should include a comprehensive overview of your band or music, including music samples, artist/band bio, photos, videos, contact information, and any other relevant details that come to mind.
